Housekeeping programme trainee Krystal demonstrates that hard work and a positive attitude can lead to success.
Krystal has learning disabilities and an interest in a career in Housekeeping. She was referred to Crumbs by Send4, a supported employment and job coaching agency, in 2023. Krystal wanted to broaden her skill set and gain employment.
Starting with no prior experience in personal or professional Housekeeping, Krystal has been diligently working through the training units within Crumbs’ Housekeeping training programme, which is endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality. Initially focusing on personal housekeeping skills, she has been advancing to develop her professional housekeeping skills.
Throughout her training, Krystal has been gaining comprehensive knowledge of Housekeeping theory, including cleaning processes and waste disposal, all while adhering to Health and Safety requirements. Under the guidance of Crumbs’ Housekeeping Trainer, Krystal has been honing her practical housekeeping skills, demonstrating her ability to work independently with attention to detail.

Krystal has also expressed a keen interest in developing her digital skills to enhance her employability and independence. Crumbs supported her in completing a programme of nine digital skills training units designed specifically for adults with learning disabilities. Krystal has excelled in this programme, earning a Certificate in Digital Skills, and became the first trainee at Crumbs to achieve this milestone.

Through the ‘PATHS Employability’ programme at Crumbs, Krystal is being supported to complete work experience with a local care home. At the end of her training programme she hopes to get her first paid job.
In recognition of her achievements, dedication, and positive attitude, Krystal was honoured as ‘Trainee of the Year’ at Crumbs’ annual awards event earlier this year.
