Pulling Together for a Cause: The CRUMBS Project at the Dorset Plane Pull! ✈️

On Bank Holiday Monday, 25th August 2025, The CRUMBS Project proudly took part for the first time in the iconic Dorset Plane Pull ✈️. Joining dozens of teams in the ultimate test of teamwork and strength — pulling a Boeing 737 weighing 35,000 kg down the runway in the fastest possible time… all in the name of charity!

It was a fabulous summer day at European Aviation, Bournemouth Airport, full of energy, collaboration, and community spirit.

Over 20 charities joined the event, including our friends from Harlees Angels, and Helpful Hounds Assistance Dogs, whose charity tents neighboured The CRUMBS Projects’, which provided welcome shade from the sun.

Our incredible team of volunteers, supporters, staff, and four trainees gave it everything they had — and with grit, determination, and a lot of cheering – helped make the event a success.

The CRUMBS Project’s two teams, aptly named ‘This Project won’t CRUMBle’ and ‘CRUMB(s) on, let’s Pull!’, comprised 39 volunteers from different walks of life who gathered to compete in the challenge and raise funds for our charity.

Four trainees from The CRUMBS Project, Dennis, Emily V, James, and Scott, took the opportunity to participate in the Plane Pull. Joining team ‘This Project won’t CRUMBle’ , along with 11 volunteers from BaxterStorey, and 5 others including The CRUMBS Project’s staff team members Jane, Janet, and George, to help move the 35,000kg aeroplane a distance of 50 metres in just 34.15 seconds.

Not to be outdone, Team ‘CRUMB(s) on, let’s Pull!’, which included The CRUMBS Project’s own Head of Centre, Ursula Boardman, and 18 other enthusiastic volunteers, achieved a pulling time of only 33.72 seconds. This was just 0.43 seconds less than Team ‘This Project won’t CRUMBle’.

This challenge event wasn’t just about strength and speed; it was about pulling together for something bigger. It was a day of teamwork, connection, and shared purpose. Collectively, the volunteers raised over £5,000 to help adults with disabilities gain the professional and life skills they need to live more independently.
